Whose Birthday Honours?

Australia Day in Ninety-nine

The word came speeding down the line

For working hard and very long

Our son had gone and got a gong.

But now it is Two Thousand Plus

And there’s an even bigger fuss

For our own Dobbo - what a gem -

Has wound up with an O.A.M.

So where will he wear this Aussic medal

When on his bike he starts to pedal?

Around his neck, with full regalia

Or will he represent Australia.

At some reception, very grand

Where, gathered from around our land

Are those who’ve made it to the top

Will his achievements never stop?

For us among his humble flock

Who have no need to watch the clock

We’re waiting now with breath abated

And wonder was he always fated

From the very moment of his birth

To succeed Archbishop Hollingworth?
