Terra Australis Espiritu Santo

That was the name of the place we call home

When men with a vision left kindred and country

And sailed far away into waters unknown.

Australia, our mother, the Southland of Dreamtime,

Your dark children watched, as from ends of the earth

The tall ships came, bearing their cargo of sorrow

The struggle began for a new nation's birth.

Australia, the country of wide open spaces,

You woke from your dreaming and welcomed us in

Your children who come from the family of nations

No matter the creed or the colour of skin.

So we pray for Australia, this land that we cherish

As we gather here in remembrance today

May we all live together in freedom and justice

Inspired by the Spirit who shows us the way.
