The "Rime of the Ancient Mariner"
Kept running through my head
Just the other evening
One line in particular
Made me stop and think
"Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink".
Well, water wasn't anywhere
When I went to clean my teeth -
In fact I still have some left -
But when I went and turned the tap
It was of water quite bereft.
There'd be enough to flush the loo
I thought amidst this how'dyedo.
In the fridge was some cold water,
Was there someone I could slaughter
Who had caused this water loss?
Too late at night to rouse the boss.
Off I went to fitful sleep which didn't last,
There was no beep to rouse me or to calm me down
So up I got, and did I frown?
No, my lucky stars I then did thank
For we'd installed a water tank.
With a bucket in each hand, I sallied forth in early morn
In fact the clock had chimed just three.
There was no-one there to see,
One full lbucket at a time was just too much for me.
I struggled, panted, stopped and started
But would not be denied the outcome of this tiresome task,
At last all was inside.
Then I collapsed upon my bed, all worries for a time had fled.
When daylight came I felt I oughta
Go and buy some bottled water.
And so I did, and though the drought had broken,
I'll not be without insurance against another time,
Should I need to recall that ancient rhyme.
