Nature is a wondrous thing
For every creature there’s a space
And that includes the human race.
Butterflies and birds and bees
Are happiest in flowers and trees,
But, little lizards in the garden
Without the slightest beg-your-pardon
Somehow, get under my front door,
Play hide-and-seek across the floor.
The gecko is the lizard’s cousin –
Are they breeding by the dozen?
One wants to live so close to me,
Why can’t it settle for a tree?
It’s dwelling now on my verandah,
It’s got my dander up and running,
The creature is so very cunning,
And making life a little hard
By leaving me its calling card.
