The rain has come and gone
Filling garden beds
And making the lawn
A miniature lake.
Now a blazing sun appears
And flowers lift their faces
To its ardent gaze.
Grey-green grevilleas stir faintly
In a teasing breeze
And earth steams.
Cricket and tennis on television
Lethargy and lazy afternoons
As summer wears on endlessly
Obliterating memories of winter.
