The wedding day had come at last
And everyone was there
Just hoping that the bride would not be late
But she was, just a few minutes
And she looked so young and fair
That nobody was sorry for the wait.
The bride had a twin sister
They looked so much alike
And the priest had taught the both of them in school
He never did know which was which
And when it came to tie the knot
He really felt as though he were a fool.
He looked from bride to bridesmaid
Just hoping for a clue
Would heaven help him just to get it right
He tried to say the words, but they wouldn’t come
The bride smiled, and her eyes were shining bright.
‘I’, he stumbled, but the bride was on the ball
‘Patricia Anne’ she quickly hissed
And the priest regained composure
And no-one would have known
The important words he had so nearly missed.
A quarter of a century seems just like yesterday
Time changes us, not always for the better
But the bridal pair, their love undimmed
Are here to show us all
That their big day earned the title of ‘red-letter’.
