Poignant

A wisp of pink in a pale blue sky

The street light's just come on

And I alone at the window-sill

Wonder where the day has gone.

The waking hours are filled with tasks

That simply must be done

But then arrives the emptiness

Along with the setting sun.

Looking back on the golden years,

The times of joy and laughter

There were no thoughts there would be tears,

No more "ever after".

Now the stars light up the sky

The moon sheds silver beams

Love's sweet memory holds me fast

And comforts me in dreams.
