October 12

The big jet touches down

And waiting hands receive its fragile cargo.

Ambulances speed into the night

Their sirens wailing symbolic of the nation’s grief.

Gone are our carefree yesterdays

A veil of tears hides our tomorrows.

The ashes of our scattered dreams

Lie scattered on the blackened earth.

Dona eis requiem.
