Break In

While I was down in Adelaide

One day my nerves became quite frayed

The three of us were so dismayed

Because the house was locked.

All the keys were safe inside

So access to us was denied.

We all were feeling shocked.

There was one window left ajar,

So small, so near but yet so far,

And who would be the shining star

To get into the house?

Two of us were well endowed,

Who was it said that three’s a crowd?

We weren’t about to grouse.

An ancient ladder was at hand

To help and save our little band,

And if all went as we then planned

Things would turn out right.

Our slim one to the challenge rose

To bring our problem to a close.

We held the ladder tight.

She struggled with the window frame,

Heaved and pushed, at last it came

Undone, and added to her fame,

She didn’t even frown.

At last she gained the smallest room,

Relieved the misery of our gloom.

What luck! The lid was down.
